“Health care voters in Iowa were the first to prove tonight what the polls have been saying all along this election—Americans want to fix our health care crisis,” said SEIU Secretary-Treasurer Anna Burger. “But tonight is just the beginning. Health care voters in all of the early states will head to the polls in the coming weeks to make health care their top priority and bring us closer to electing a President who will guarantee access to health care for every man, woman, and child.”
</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://www.iowaforhealthcare.org/press-releases/2007/12/12/health-care-costs-threaten-iowa-farm-and-ranch-families.html"><rss:title>HEALTH CARE COSTS THREATEN IOWA FARM AND RANCH FAMILIES</rss:title><rss:link>http://www.iowaforhealthcare.org/press-releases/2007/12/12/health-care-costs-threaten-iowa-farm-and-ranch-families.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject></dc:subject>
As this all important political state gears up for the approaching caucus, the issue of health care reform is being discussed at nearly every dinner table, and by every candidate. The poll was conducted by Lake Research Partners of likely primary and caucus voters in New Hampshire, Iowa, South Carolina and Nevada.

In these states, Democratic and Republican voters overwhelmingly agree that we need fundamental, not piecemeal reform of the health care system. There is also extremely strong bi-partisan support for shared responsibility in reaching the goal of quality, affordable health care coverage for everyone. Ninety percent of Democratic voters and 77% of Republican voters agree that “businesses, government, and individuals all have a responsibility to help pay for health care.”
</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://www.iowaforhealthcare.org/press-releases/2007/4/10/health-care-voters-support-culver-for-governor.html"><rss:title>Health Care Voters Support Culver for Governor</rss:title><rss:link>http://www.iowaforhealthcare.org/press-releases/2007/4/10/health-care-voters-support-culver-for-governor.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject></dc:subject>
DES MOINES – Iowa for Health Care and Health Care Voters joined together on the steps of the Capitol to announce that they are putting their support behind the pro-health care candidate for Governor, Chet Culver.

The two ads focus specifically on the IA-1 and IL-17 Congressional district races and ask voters to support the pro-health care candidates, Bruce Braley and Phil Hare, in these races.

“Our message is simple: band-aids won’t fix the crisis,” said Sarah Swisher, director of Iowa for Health Care, which has the support of over 20,000 Health Care Voters. “During the last 15 years Congress has taken a seat while health care costs have more than doubled. “We need to fight for quality, affordable health care all Iowans can count on so that none of Iowa’s most vulnerable people are cut off from health care, and the cigarette tax is part of the solution,” said Sarah Swisher, RN, State Director of Iowa for Health Care. “Tobacco-related illnesses kill 4,600 Iowans a year and cost the state $235 million in health care costs, while the current tobacco tax brings in only $88 million in revenue to the state. Raising the cigarette tax could help turn all of those numbers around, and head Iowa in a healthier direction.”
</rss:item></rdf:RDF>
