Thousands of Iowa Health Care Voters Turn Out in Nearly Every Precinct to Make Health Care Top Priority on Caucus Night

Iowa’s 32,000 health care voters turned out in nearly every precinct in the state tonight to ensure friends and neighbors caucused for candidates who will make health care a top priority and passed hundreds of health care for all resolutions. “Health care voters in Iowa were the first to prove tonight what the polls have been saying all along this election—Americans want to fix our health care crisis,” said SEIU Secretary-Treasurer Anna Burger. “But tonight is just the beginning. Health care voters in all of the early states will head to the polls in the coming weeks to make health care their top priority and bring us closer to electing a President who will guarantee access to health care for every man, woman, and child.”

Gov. Culver and Iowa for Health Care Call for Health Care Plans

Des Moines – Today Iowa for Health Care re-launches its campaign, joining with Iowa Gov. Chet Culver on the west steps of the State Capitol to call on all presidential candidates to present their health care plans by Aug. 1, 2007. Gov. Culver has recently led the charge to make the 2007 session of the Iowa General Assembly the most successful health care assembly in history.

New Polling on Iowa Voters and Health Care in Advance of Presidential Health Care Forum

Today Americans for Health Care, a project of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), released a poll which reveals that 82% of primary voters agree that “everyone has a right to quality, affordable health care coverage.” This includes 92% of Democratic primary voters and, remarkably, 72% of Republican primary voters. The poll was conducted by Lake Research Partners of likely primary and caucus voters in New Hampshire, Iowa, South Carolina and Nevada. In these states, Democratic and Republican voters overwhelmingly agree that we need fundamental, not piecemeal reform of the health care system. There is also extremely strong bi-partisan support for shared responsibility in reaching the goal of quality, affordable health care coverage for everyone. Ninety percent of Democratic voters and 77% of Republican voters agree that “businesses, government, and individuals all have a responsibility to help pay for health care.”

Health Care Voters Support Culver for Governor

DES MOINES – Iowa for Health Care and Health Care Voters joined together on the steps of the Capitol to announce that they are putting their support behind the pro-health care candidate for Governor, Chet Culver. “Iowa’s Health Care Voters know that something significant has to be done to fix our health care crisis,” said Sarah Swisher, RN, Director of Iowa for Health Care. “We need a leader on health care to lead our state. That’s why Health Care Voters support Chet Culver. He is for fixing our health care crisis by controlling costs and expanding access and preventative care.”
