We are all bombarded with so many different media every day.  Whether it’s the television news, radio talk shows, web logs (blogs), or our local newspapers, we’re constantly hearing messages and being persuaded to think a certain way about different issues.

Letters to the Editor

With so many articles on health care appearing in local and national papers, it’s a great time for you to write a letter to the editor. Here are some reasons to write a letter:

  • It’s an ideal forum for sharing your opinion and story with your local community.
  • You can tell your story and proactively get health care messages in the public.
  • You can reach members of your community and take the opportunity to get them involved and be Health Care Voters too.
  • It’s one of the first pages many candidates and elected officials turn to as they consider what is important to their constituents.

Talking to the Media

Many radio stations and programs address the health care issue.  Have you ever thought of calling in and telling them your story?  You should! Here are some reasons to call in:

  • You can tell your story and proactively get health care messages in the public.
  • You can reach members of your community and take the opportunity to get them involved and be Health Care Voters too.
  • You can do it from anywhere – in your home or even at work.
  • Radio is often much more flexible with time than a television soundbite or a news quote.
  • It’s good practice – you’ll become more comfortable telling your story and using messages.
  • When you call in, make sure to tell your story; ask a question of the expert, elected official or candidate; use messages; and say “I’m a Health Care Voter!”
