About Iowa for Health Care
Iowa for Health Care is uniting working families, small business owners, seniors, health care workers, community leaders, and policy makers to fight for affordable, quality health care that we can all count on. Order campaign materials.
Health care reform must ensure:
• Quality health care for everyone with a choice of doctors and plans, without gaps in access or coverage;
• Preventive care as part of any basic benefit plan that promotes health and eliminates economic and racial disparities;
• Controlled costs by providing care that is cost-efficient and medically effective; and
• Financing that is fair with responsibility shared by employers, individuals, and government.
Highlights of our campaign’s work include:
Mobilizing Voters on Health Care
We have made health care a top issue in federal, state, and local elections. In 2006 we mobilized Health Care Voters to support pro-health care candidates for governor and Congress.
Passing Legislation to Expand Access and Affordability
We have worked to help pass health care legislation, including a tax on cigarettes that would help fund health care across our state.
Creating Demand for Health Care Reform
We have built a movement of 20,000 Iowans who declare that health care is their #1 priority. In 2004 we created an unprecedented movement to push health care in the 2004 presidential campaign in Iowa. Health Care Voters demanded that all presidential candidates have health care plans and exit polls showed that health care was the #1 issue in the state.
Leading up to the 2008 election we will be pushing the issue of health care reform like never before!
